Sales rank is easily the most misunderstood aspect of selling on Amazon. What is a good sales rank? What does a sales rank of zero mean? What do I do with sales rank for sub-categories? Why does sales rank have to be so confusing so much of the time?
I’m here to tell you it doesn’t have to be that way! You can finally get the clarity you need on the issue of understanding Amazon sales rank numbers. We at Full-Time FBA have launched a mini-course called The Reseller’s Guide to Sales Rank: Understanding Amazon Best Sellers Rank for Maximum Profits. The mini-course is a combination ebook (30+ pages) and video course (almost 2 hours).
Check out The Reseller’s Guide to Sales Rank mini-course to see how you can master the concept of best sellers rank and be on your way toward smarter sourcing decisions for your Amazon FBA business!

[WELCOME]
[0:00:01.8] ANNOUNCER: Welcome to The Full-Time FBA Show. In each episode, it’s our goal to help you turn part time hours into a full-time income, selling almost anything on Amazon. Now, your hosts of the show, Stephen and Rebecca Smotherman.
[INTRODUCTION]
[0:00:21.5] STEPHEN: Welcome to episode number 63 of The Full-Time FBA Show. It is Christmas week. Christmas is coming very soon and we have a very special episode for you today with a very special guest. And with me on this episode is my co-host, Rebecca, how are you doing?
[0:00:36.0] REBECCA: I’m doing great. This might be my favorite guest so far. We’ve had a lot of really great guests on our show. But this one, he’s my favorite. I’ve got to say I’m very biased.
[0:00:44.7] STEPHEN: That’s true. I think we both are. And so, the guest for today is my 13-year-old son, Peter, and he has some skills for success that we can use on our Amazon FBA business. Seriously, do not be tempted to skip this episode, because you’re going to miss out on a gem of an episode.
[0:01:05.4] REBECCA: All right, so we are just so excited to get into today’s interview with Peter Smotherman. He is 13 years old. He’s in the eighth grade. And he is in a class called skills for success because he’s autistic. So, he is working hard on learning skills that he’s going to need for success, that really all of us need in life and in business. And he is constantly sharing these skills with us. He loves that class so much. It’s his favorite class. And so, when I asked him how it’s going, he likes to share with me several tips that he’s learned. And as we were listening to it recently, we thought, “You know what, these are tips that would work really well in an FBA business.”
So, as we were thinking through some of these tips, we thought, “Who better to share them with you than Peter himself?” Stephen sat down with Peter and talk with him about some of the skills that he likes the most.
[0:01:59.1] STEPHEN: The interview I had with him. It’s a really short, we have a little bite-sized episode for you today with Peter. And as he was going through some of his tips, he likes doing things in order, but then sometimes might forget one of the tips. So, there might be a tip that he doesn’t say, or he’ll might skip around. Don’t worry, there’s nothing wrong with your audio. The tips are the point, the main thing for you to listen to, and to actually take action on because there’s a lot of really great gems, gold nuggets for you to apply to your Amazon FBA business. And so, without further ado, here’s my interview with Peter Smotherman.
[INTERVIEW]
[0:02:33.2] STEPHEN: Hey everybody, Stephen Smotherman, here from fulltimefba.com.
[0:02:39.2] PETER: And I’m Peter Smotherman. Peter Jude Smotherman. I am Stephen’s son.
[0:02:45.1] STEPHEN: That’s right.
[0:02:46.3] PETER: With fulltimefba.com, also.
[0:02:48.6] STEPHEN: Yes. And Peter’s got some skills for your success, from his class Skills for Success. So, give me some of those skills, some of those quotes that you’ve been learning.
[0:02:59.5] PETER: The quote is, number one, “If you don’t sacrifice for what you want, what you want becomes the sacrifice.”
[0:03:06.4] STEPHEN: Very good. Yes, we need to sacrifice to really get what we want.
[0:03:10.5] PETER: Number two, “The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.”
[0:03:15.8] STEPHEN: Yeah, a lot of people like to talk about what they’re going to do, but the people that actually do things, those are the ones who are winning.
[0:03:23.3] PETER: Three, “The key to success is to focus on goals, not obstacles.”
[0:03:28.7] STEPHEN: Yeah, too many times, obstacles become distractions for us, but focus on our goals, FOCUS the acronym, follow one course until successful, FOCUS.
[0:03:41.6] PETER: Follow one course until successful. Number four, “If the plan doesn’t work, change the plan. But never the goal.”
[0:03:48.3] STEPHEN: That’s good. Yes. Alter the plan, change the plan. But let’s stick with the goal of whatever it is that you’re searching for or wanting to do.
[0:03:56.2] PETER: Number five, “Whatever happens, take responsibility. If something happens, take responsibility.”
[0:04:02.7] STEPHEN: Yep, that’s really good. Don’t blame other people for things that aren’t working for you, work for it, take responsibility and take action.
[0:04:09.4] PETER: And wait for it, wait for it.
[0:04:12.0] STEPHEN: Little Hamilton there, right?
[0:04:13.6] PETER: Right. Number seven, “Don’t expect to see a change if you don’t make one.”
[0:04:19.1] STEPHEN: Yes, we need to make changes in order to see change in what we’re trying to do. That’s right.
[0:04:24.5] PETER: Eight. “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.”
[0:04:29.4] STEPHEN: That’s awesome. That’s a good one.
[0:04:32.3] PETER: Nine, “Today is another chance to get better.” Ten, “Who you are tomorrow begins with what you do today.” Eleven, “Success is some of small efforts repeated day in and day out.”
[0:04:46.8] STEPHEN: Yes, the success is a sum of the small efforts that we put in every single day.
[0:04:52.6] PETER: Repeated day in and day out. Number 12, “You get what you focus on.”
[0:04:59.1] STEPHEN: Yeah.
[0:05:00.8] PETER: The next quote, 18 is, “You can’t go back and change the beginning but you can start where you are and change the ending.” What about number 20? “Lost time is never found again.” And more, I got some 101 life lessons.
[0:05:20.5] STEPHEN: We’re not going to do all those today. But thank you so much for helping me share these life lessons with everybody again. This has been Stephen Smotherman from fulltimefba.com.
[0:05:29.8] PETER: And this is Peter Smotherman.
[0:05:32.4] STEPHEN: Well, that’s all we have for today. Thanks so much. Have a great day and God bless. Bye.
[0:05:40.1] REBECCA: All right, well, we hope that you enjoyed the interview with Peter as much as we did putting it together for you, and we hope that if you have any tips that you’d like to share with him or if you’d like to let him know what your favorite tip was that you would share that with him at the show notes for this episode, fulltimefba.com/63, that’s the number 63 because this is Episode 63.
