Usually on this blog we talk about strategies and tips for how you can better source more inventory to sell on Amazon in order to turn part-time hours into a full-time income. Sourcing, sourcing, and more sourcing! Becoming the best Amazon sourcer (not sorcerer 🤪) is a goal we all have. The better we can source our inventory, the more money we’ll make in the long term.
But sometimes there comes a time when we’re not able to do much sourcing. Maybe we’ve run out of sourcing money, or maybe the stores we usually source at are closed, or maybe there is a global pandemic going on causing Amazon to temporarily pause FBA shipments for all items that are not deemed as essential. Sometimes we just are not able to source for inventory.
For times when sourcing for inventory is not really much of an option, here are 10 ways you can still grow your Amazon FBA business in order to make more sales and more profits. Now, don’t let these 10 ideas overwhelm you with thinking you have more work to do. Instead, see which ones stand out to you as most effective and start working on those. Each of these ideas will help move the needle forward when it comes to growing a healthy and profitable Amazon FBA business.
Optimize Your Current FBA Inventory
You probably have inventory already at an Amazon FBA warehouse, so here are some ways you can optimize that inventory and lead to more sales.
1. Make Sure Inventory is Priced Competitively
If you have a small number (under 50) of SKUs in your inventory, you can manually reprice your items to make sure they are priced well. If you have over 50 SKUs, then I highly recommend setting up an automatic repricer. The repricer I use is called BQool and it’s set up to reprice my inventory (if necessary) every 15 minutes. Just be careful when setting up a repricer that you don’t price gouge anything Amazon deems as essential during a pandemic. Already use a repricer? Then double check to make sure your min/max prices are set up correctly.
2. Fix Poor Amazon Product Listings
If you have items that don’t seem to sell well, then it might be because the product listing was not created very well. Maybe the picture is horrible, or the product summary or bullet points could be improved. See if you can update these listings so that more customers will want to buy them. If you want help on this, check out this blog post.
3. Consider Using Sponsored Product Advertisements
Start running advertisements to your current listings to help attract more buyers to your inventory. Amazon can help you run ads directly to your specific inventory items. Here is some help from Amazon if this idea interests you.
4. Sell Your Current Amazon Inventory on eBay
Amazon allows multi-channel fulfillment, which means selling your Amazon FBA items on other platforms and having Amazon fulfill those orders. For example, I use a service called JoeLister that lists select items from my Amazon inventory directly on eBay. That means more customer eyes on my product and increased sales. JoeLister automates everything, so when an eBay sale comes in, JoeLister automatically sets up an FBA order to ship to my eBay customer. JoeLister also adjusts my Amazon inventory so I never accidentally have a double order on one product. On the other hand, if I sell an item on Amazon, then JoeLister automatically updates my inventory level on eBay. For more about JoeLister, click here.
Clean Up Your Amazon Back End Metrics
The better the health of your Amazon account, the more sales you’ll get. It’s been proven that Amazon accounts with better health will gain more time in the Buy Box rotation, which is important because over 80% of the sales on Amazon come from the Buy Box. So by improving the health of your account, you’ll help increase your sales.
5. Do a Quick Account Health Check-Up
When you log-in to Seller Central, click on the Performance tab and choose Account Health. This will give you an overview of your Amazon account health. See if there are any performance or compliance issues you need to address or improve. If you have any authenticity complaints, be sure to listen to a recent podcast episode on The Full-Time FBA Show where I interview Kim Coghlan, an expert on how to fix inauthentic complaints.
6. Remove Negative/Neutral Feedback Scores
You can try to remove any negative/neutral feedback scores that violate Amazon’s customer feedback policy. Yes, even try to get the neutral feedback scores removed because they still impact your Amazon account health in a negative way. You can ask for the feedback removal directly from your feedback page, and if that doesn’t work, then you have one chance to appeal that decision by reopening the feedback removal case. For more on keeping a good feedback score, click here.
7. Remove or Destroy Dead Inventory
We all have inventory that has been in an FBA warehouse far too long. The only thing this inventory is doing is eating up monthly storage fees, possibly long-term storage fees, and hurting our overall IPI (Inventory Performance Index) score. If you want some help on how to identify and remove/destroy your dead inventory, click here.
8. Go Through Old Returns/Inventory
Chances are you have a pile of older Amazon returns piling up that you need to deal with. Maybe some of these returned items are still sellable that you can send back in to Amazon soon. Maybe some of the old returns are items that Amazon owes you a reimbursement for (like a customer switcheroo, or a customer who did not return all of an item, or an overstock return that was damaged in transit). Or maybe a customer got a refund for a return and never actually returned the inventory to Amazon – and you deserve a reimbursement for that non-return. There are lots of possible ways you can get reimbursed from Amazon on things that are not your fault. So see what reimbursements you can request.
Improve Yourself as a Seller
Sometimes, the absolute best thing you can do is to improve yourself mentally. In fact, I think a person’s mindset is one of the biggest contributing factors to their overall success.
9. Learn Something New
There are countless free and paid ways you can become a better and smarter overall reseller on Amazon if you take the time to improve your skills as a reseller and business owner. Check out and subscribe to the Full-Time FBA YouTube channel which is filled with hundreds of free Amazon FBA training videos. 10. Clean up Your Office Space
Sometimes we can get so focused on our Amazon FBA business that our work space becomes a cluttered and distracting mess. Cleaning up and organizing your office/shipping space can be one way to help bring more focus to your Amazon business once you are done. It’s amazing how working in a clean and organized space actually helps us better focus on what we need to be doing. Here is how I set up my processing desk and my shipping station.
So those are 10 ways you can help grow your Amazon FBA business that do not even mention sourcing for new inventory. Just know that you don’t need to do all of these suggestions at one time. Just pick one or two to focus on first, and then you can come back later to tackle some of the others.
What about you? Which of the 10 ideas above are you going to do first? Also, what are some of the ways you focus on growing your Amazon business that do not include sourcing for more inventory? I’d love to hear your ideas in the comments.
