Recently, Rebecca and I had an opportunity to take a tour of an Amazon Fulfillment Center here in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. To be more specific, we toured DFW7, and it was a mind blowing experience. During the tour we marveled at the efficiency of the fulfillment center. Both of us took a lot of notes. The tour started at 10am, lasted about an hour, and was simply fascinating.
After the tour Rebecca and I went out for lunch and immediately talked about what we experienced and the ways we should adjust our Amazon business based on what we learned during the tour.
At the end of the day, there were 6 things that we learned from the Amazon fulfillment tour that had the biggest impact on our Amazon business. I sat down and recorded a video for you outlining these six things and how they can also impact your Amazon business.
Bonus tip: After the video, I’ll share with you how YOU can sign up to take a fulfillment center tour. I totally recommend taking a tour. It’s free, fun, and fascinating!
Want a deeper look into an Amazon fulfillment center? Check out this interesting YouTube video that will show you what it actually looks like inside of a Florida Amazon warehouse:
Again, Rebecca and I had a blast at the Amazon fulfillment center warehouse tour, and I recommend you find out if Amazon is offering tours at a participating warehouse near you. You can find out more about the in-person Amazon fulfillment center tours as well as online fulfillment center virtual tours. The tours are free, last about an hour, and are a load of fun if you’re an Amazon seller.
Now, I’d love to hear from you. Have you ever taken an Amazon fulfillment center tour before? If so, did it have the Amazon robotics set up or was it an older one with aisles and aisles of inventory? What did you learn from your tour? If you haven’t taken a tour, is this something that would interest you?
Imagine working on your Amazon business knowing exactly what your priorities are, what you need to avoid, and what you need to accomplish during each month to make progress toward making this year your best sales year ever.

Great video! I love the PECULIAR acronym.
This has inspired me to step up my customer service game. I already feel like I’m in the top 10% for customer service but I CAN improve. Serve Serve Serve Sell.
Thank you.

Great post and congrats on 5 years! Is there a way to get the books if I’m up in Canada?
Thanks

Unfortunately, we can only make them available as free Kindle books on the US Amazon website because of the way their Kindle Direct Publishing and free promo contracts work. They are available for purchase on the international Amazon marketplaces, but we don’t have control over making them free on those platforms and we can’t make them available through any other platforms. I’m so sorry!

As a FBA seller, I am curious if you saw how your shipment was processed after it arrives at the Amazon warehouse. I was just wondering how someone handles and scans your items. I have found that the warehouse people are always missing items from my boxes especially now, since Amazon is asking for receipts to prove that you bought the item.

Thank you so much for the information about being able to tour the warehouses. You always deliver good information very succinctly. My husband and I have a goal of attending a baseball game at every major league
ballpark. I booked a spot on the Indiana warehouse tour and we will go to Cincinatti and St. Louis games
while we are in the area. Would not have known about it without you. Thanks again. Hope you’re getting
to those Astros games!

I have the same “baseball stadium” bucket list. Rebecca and I plan on going to all MLB stadiums and we love to combine a work/sourcing trip with something fun like going to a baseball game. Hope y’all enjoy the tour!

I worked in an Amazon fulfillment center a year ago and it is not all rosy as you portray. As a matter of fact they had a very low retention rate. Probably due to unrealistic performance requirements and for example virtually being on call as needed with sometimes little notice. I ran a warehouse operation years ago and our standards were much higher and our treatment of our associates was much better as well.

I’m sure that this type of job has a turnover rate and has it’s ups/downs just like other jobs. Some people connect with the job more than others and stay for years and some find out quickly that it’s not for them… and just like other jobs, some people are able to meet the overall expectations of the job better than others. For some it’s a good fit, and for others a different job is better. I’m just thankful for all the hard work these people do to receive, process, and ship out my inventory for me. So thankful I don’t do that part of the work anymore.
